Warren Woman Fatally Shoots Ex-Boyfriend in Self-Defense After Forced Entry Amid Domestic Violence History

WARREN, MI — A Warren woman fatally shot her ex-boyfriend after he broke into her home and chased her on Monday afternoon in what police describe as the latest in a long history of domestic violence incidents between the two.

The incident took place at approximately 4:20 p.m. at the woman’s residence on Bolam Street, near the intersection of 10 Mile and Groesbeck. Police responded to a call about a shooting and arrived to find that a 29-year-old man had been shot in the abdomen. After attempting to flee, he was discovered on a nearby street and rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to a local news report, the man had forced his way into the woman’s home, initiating a pursuit within the residence. In an attempt to defend herself, the 33-year-old woman fired a single shot at the man, halting his advance. She remained at the scene and was taken into custody without resistance. The woman later confirmed to investigators that she had acted in self-defense, recounting that she and the man had a tumultuous relationship in which domestic violence was reportedly frequent.

Police reported that there had been “an extensive domestic violence history at the residence,” though further details were not released. Law enforcement has been called to the address previously, indicating ongoing safety concerns related to the relationship.

As of now, no charges have been announced, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to clarify the details surrounding the moments leading up to the shooting. Warren police assured the public that there is no continuing threat to community safety from the incident.

In cases of domestic violence, this incident underscores the importance of personal safety and the right to self-defense. If you or someone you know is in an unsafe situation, resources are available to provide support and guidance.
