Suspect’s Last Act On Earth Was Breaking Into An Armed Homeowner’s Residence

A home invasion in Pettis County turned deadly when a homeowner shot and killed an intruder. Authorities are investigating the incident, with no further details released pending notification of the suspect’s next of kin.


SEDALIA, MO (1-minute read) – One person has died after allegedly breaking into a Pettis County home in the early hours of Friday, August 30. The incident occurred near the intersection of Anderson School Road and Shire Lane, where deputies from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office were initially called to respond to a single-vehicle accident reported by a passerby. However, while on their way to the accident, law enforcement received a second report concerning a burglary in progress at a nearby residence.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found visible damage to the residence from the forced entry. The homeowner explained that an unknown man had forcibly entered the home, prompting the homeowner to shoot the intruder. When authorities entered the home, they found the suspect lying on the ground. The Pettis County Ambulance District was immediately called to the scene, but the man was declared dead upon their arrival.

The Pettis County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident, and more details are expected to follow as the investigation progresses. Authorities are withholding the identities of those involved until they can notify the suspect’s family members.
