Pregnant Mother Defends Herself and Children from Violent Ex-Partner, Father of Her Children, in Grovetown, Georgia
GROVETOWN, GA — On Monday, January 6, 2025, around 9:27 p.m., Grovetown police responded to reports of a domestic dispute and subsequent gunfire in the 7600 block of Main Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a woman had fired a single shot to stop a man, identified as Devaris Hampton, 36, from forcibly entering her home.
According to the Grovetown Police Department, the woman, who is nine months pregnant with Hampton’s child, had recently ended their relationship. Officers responded to both scenes, providing medical aid to Hampton until emergency responders arrived. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later released into custody. Hampton was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center on outstanding probation warrants and a new charge of Criminal Trespass – Family Violence.
The police investigation confirmed that the woman acted in self-defense to protect herself, her unborn child, and the two minors in the home. She will not face any charges.
