BONNEY LAKE, WA — A deadly confrontation occurred on Sunday, September 15, 2024, when an alleged trailer theft escalated into a fatal shootout. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office and local police responded to a call at 6:52 a.m. reporting both shots fired and a collision near Rhodes Lake Road E and Falling Water Boulevard E.

Upon arrival, deputies and officers from Sumner, Orting, and Bonney Lake discovered a chaotic scene. A white pickup truck, believed to be involved in the theft of a trailer from the Prairie Ridge area, had crashed. Nearby, a man was found lying dead on the ground next to the truck, and another man in the back seat of the pickup was severely injured. Despite emergency responders’ efforts, the injured man succumbed to his wounds shortly after arriving at the hospital.

According to initial reports, gunfire had erupted between individuals from two vehicles—a white truck, allegedly involved in the theft, and a gold truck that had chased it down. Authorities suspect that shots were fired during a high-speed chase and continued after the vehicles collided.

Witnesses reported seeing two people fleeing the scene on foot. Police soon apprehended one suspect, a woman who had been spotted walking through neighborhood yards. She was located on a trail behind Victor Falls Elementary School by officers from Bonney Lake and Sumner. Another individual, a man, believed to have fled the scene is still at large.

Detectives are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with information about the incident or sightings of suspicious activity in the area to contact the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department or submit tips through Crime Stoppers.

This incident highlights the risks of criminal confrontations escalating into dangerous encounters. It is a sobering reminder of the importance of maintaining awareness and, when faced with imminent threats, taking necessary steps to protect yourself.
